Healthy Growth In Earnings Brings Higher Return, Fleming Says. BY CHAS P. SHAEFFER. The Riggs National Bank has been placed on a definite annual dividend basis of 15 per cent, directors of the institution yesterday approving this suggestion made by Robert V. Flem- ing, head of the bank The disburse- ments will be made in April and Oc- tober. The suggestion was actuated. Mr. Fleming #3id, by a consistent and healthy growth in eurnings, sufficient to_justify the higher return. Prior to recapitalization in October, 1923, annual dividend disbursments amounted to 26 per cent on a capital izatlon of $1,000,000. The following vear a regular disbursement of 13 per ent, together with an extra dividend of 1 per cent, was paid on the capital izatlon of $2.500,000, while in the 12 months of 1925 a regular dividend of 13 per cent and two extras of 1 per cent were declared. A feature of the report to directors dealt with the remarkable growth of the four branch offices, whose deposit <, which in 1922 amounted to only $430 000. now total in excess of $5.000,000. Karl W. Corby, son of the late Charles 1. Corby, a member of Riggs board for many years, was named to the directorate 1o succeed his father, Pepco Preferred Weaker.
