NEW YORK, February 24.—A bleck of little more than 1,009 shares of Mahoning Coal Railroad Co. has been sold for $1,000,000, it was reported yesterday. The road 1s a link in the New York Central's only route to the steel centers of Pittsburgh and Youngstown and has a 600 per cent surplus with a current dividend rate of 100 per cent annually. At the price reported the stock is the highest priced railroad issue in the world. PLANS NEW FINANCING NEW YORK, February 24 (#).—To finance the construction of additional manufacturing facilities, the Bethle- hem Steel Corporation yesterday an- nounced that arrangements had been completed with its bankers for $35, 000,000 new financing through the sale of 7 per cent cumulative pre- iferred stock. Common stock holders will be given preference ia subscrib- ing for the new shares, which will be priced at par plus accrued divi- dends, The Guaranty Co. will head the offering syndicate. Proceeds of the issue, E. G. Grace, president of the corporation, an- nounces, will provide funds for addi- tional manufacturing facilities, nec- essary to meet a demand for certain steel products in excess of the pres- ent facilities of the corporation. A large pipe mill will be one of the principal extensions. Funds also will be provided for the retirement on or before April 1, 1928, of the 8 per cent cumulative preferred stock, of which only about $8,000,000 is now outstanding.
