A turther sharp decline occurred in the ecotton market in today’s early trad- ing. January contracts sold off to 18.11 on the early break, a net decline of 44 points and & drop of 236 points from the high level last bureau day and closing at 18.21. The general market closed steady at net declines of 31 to 44 points. The market was expecting large ex- ports over the week end, but seemed to be paying little attention to any factor, except talk of an easiness basis in the South and rumors of in- creased hedge selling. Manchester cables said large busi- ness was pending in cotton goods, but was unlikely to be placed until the raw material markets were more set- tled. A somewhat similar view ap- peared to be taken of the dom goods situation by raw cotton traders.
