Kirby, who regu- jates traffic at Connecticut avenue and L street, has found out that cour- tesy pays. Several days ago he noticed a motor ear stalled at the end of the Connecti- cut Avenue Bridge, occupied by two young women. Upon inquiry he learned that the car had run out of gasoline, and he arranged with a passing mo- torist to go for a supply of gasoline and return with it. Lieut. Col. F. L. Dengler of the War Department, father of the young women who were in the car, has writ- ten to Traffic Director Eldridge commending the policeman and ex- pressing the belief that the incident bore out the impression he has always felt, that traffic officers are not the enemies_of automobi The father did not know the officer by name, but police officlals identified him by the location end time.
