Losses at Bridge Not Allowed as Tax Reductions Loases of $2.770.60 from playing bridge will not be allowed as deduc- tions from the income tax report of M. L. Heide of New York for 1919. The Board of Tax Appeals has so ruled in sustaining a decision of the Bureau of Internal Revenue. In its findings the board explained that three prerequisites to mem- bership in Mr. Helde's club were that the applicant muat be a gen- tleman, muat be passed upon by the card committes, and musat play a good game of bridge. The board also pointed out that playing bridge for high stakes is {llegal in New York, and therefore losses are not deductible from the tax. Capt. Drinkwater Ordered Here. Capt. John G.
