Thinks Employers Fail to Study Workers’ View of Problems. Eizo Sakai, Japan's wealthy “knight of the people,” noted for {acts in championing the | working classes of Nippon, stopped in Washington long encugh yesterday to pay his respects to President Cool- idge and express a few views regard- ing the American laboring man. His visit to the White House was| of brief duration. Through the medium of an interpreter, Mr. Sakal extended the greetings of his legion of followers to the President and received, in turn, the latter's felicitations. Incidentally, the oriental visitor let it be known that he will call the mem- bers of his great fraternal organiza- tion, the Nippon Seigidan, together for a great public demonstration when the new American Ambassador to Japan, yet to be appointed, is sent to Tokio. “Workers Temperamental.” In an interview noon Mr. Sakal that the Amer workingmen of |several trades ha Rone on strike for higher wages. Mr. Sakal is en route to Japan from Genoa, where he attended the inter- national raiflroad conference. He is president of the Bantan Railway Co. and a director of the Tokio Gulf Land Co., directing several thousand of ‘workers. As “Kyokaku,” or knight of the people, he wields uncanny power over 100,000 workers, who look up to him as their “father” and guide. The sacred title of Kyokaku was conferred on Mr. Sakal by his foster father, Kokayashi-Sahel, who died nine vears ago. At the latter's wish Mr. Sakai married Sahel's daughter, took charge of all his properties and assumed authority and leadership over all his “kobuns,” or followers. In- dicative of the trust given him by the workingmen of Japan are his numerous successful settlements of labor controversies, including the, great stone workers' strike of 1903 and’ the strike of 1,500,000 tramway workers last year in Osaka, his home.
