Despite several reports that WHT of the Radiophone Broadcasting Cor- poration of Chicago planned to hook in with the A. T. & T. chain of sta- tions this Winter, officials of WHT today denfed that such action fs planned. The station, it was said, will continue the broadcasting policles it has followed since it came on the air this Summer. RADIO’S BEST OFFERINGS {clude such items as the features of | the circuit used; the arranzement of parts with a view to shortening con- nections and increasing the efficiency by eliminating the stray fields due to excessive wiring and poor location of parts and other such factors. This division also includes the care and knowledge of equipment exercised in the selection of the parts used in the receiver. The mechanical subdivision in- cludes such factors as arrangement of parts, location of wiring, selection of equipment with a view to making | the assembled set look as neat and at tractive as possible. 1 would split the 30 points evenly between the two subdivisions and al Consider Factors. In making the design both factors should be taken into consideration, and care should be taken to sacrifice no efficiency in one department at the expense of the other. Originality in the design of the cir cuit, in the switching arrangements If any are required, in the provisions made for aerials of different charac- ! teristics and in the arrangement of | parts as nearly as possible in a sym- metrical design, all go a long way toward making the set as distinctive and worthy of special attention. It will be worth vour while to spend some time in originating some new angle in circuit design or mechanical ar- rangement. Of the total of 100 possi- ble points, 40 have been taken by efficiency or actual results obtained on test and 30 have been taken for in design and workmanship. It is also true that good design and work manship cannot help but increase the efficlency of a receiver. In tomorrow’s article I will out- line a number of hints to prospective contestants which will aid them in designing and constructing recetvers | fi which are to be entered in such con- | tests. By keeping them in mind vou will be a step ahead of the fellow who | does not know of the little tricks and kinks which stamp a receiver as dis- tinctive. ‘WIP Closes for Five Days.
