He stated that the question of co- operative marketing must be further studied by the Government, and that he hoped when the time came for any legislation of this nature that the ad- ministration and the forces behind the various co-operative movements would come to some understanding and would co-operate in obtaining something practical and which would meet the approval of those directly affected” President Coolidge today had ar- ranged for himself a schedule of con- siderable size, resembling very close- ly his work days prior to his vaca- [T All the new and wanted colors are included, such as Pencil Blue, French Blue, Chinese Red, Paris, Tortoige Shell, Cerise, Zadeite, Narcissus,” Flame, Champagne and many others. 40 inches wide. ldenbers's—First $1.89 Georgetteep_e 1$1.19/Gold BOTH SIDES OF 7™ AT K ST “THE DEPENDAB! President Coolidge and Secretary of Agriculture Jardine drew thelr chalrs close together In the former's office today and discussed at length the agricultural situation. This was the first opportunity President Coolldge has had since leaving Washington last June to hear directly from the 1ips of the head of the Department of Agriculture just exactly what the condition is at this time, and to learn the views of the Secretary himself. Mr. Jardine intimated, after hav ing seen the President, that his re- sume unquestionably caused the President to feel optimistic regarding the prospects for the farmer for the next year. Secretary Jardine believed that the agricultural situation throughout the country is good. In fact, he went so far as to say that if every other in dustry in the country fares as well as does agriculture this nation can look forward to another year of prosperity ‘Will Discuss Merger. Secretary has personally visited of the country during and besides this, he has been especially well informed of the qrop and marketing situation. He said that he did not disc the ques- tion of the Armour-Mo packing merger, but intimated that his office very shortly, probably later in the afternoon, would have an announce- mount to make. This was taken to mean that the announcement would have to do with the merger: secretary Jardine did not care to ss the agricultural commission hich_President Coolidge appointed Fall to make a survey of the o make recommenda < n with a view to bringing nd improvement in those sections where it is needed. He stated that he understood that the President had announced at Swamp. scott that this commission would be called together again shortly for the purpose of completing its survey be- fore the meeting of Congress. He said he would rather have the President make announcements as to the work of the commission The Secr v also said he did not scuss the President’s advo- intary railroad consolida a cure for the rate evil and he President felt so sure would be a great benefit to the agriculturists. Goldenberg’s—Second Floor. = The first few days in school Steve bore down as though he was engraving a motto on a slab of gran- ite. But father had Steve’s Endura fixed. Itdidn’t cost a cent, for it Corn Sections Prosper. Secretary Jardine said that one of the pleasing features of the agricul- tural situation is that those sections of the country which were not so for- tunate in the matter of profitable re- turns from their crops last year are now enjoving the greatest of the sea- perity. This is mainly true sections of the Nation, he . lowa and those other States which have large corn crops should reap splendid profits this year. In his opinion the only chance to lessen these prospects iss for heavy fro S between now and the time the corn is all harvested and safely stored away, and even then hte danger is very remote. Secretary Jardine in speaking opti- mistically of the situation explained that his figures show that while the volume of production is not so great as last year, the prices, on the whole, are better and that the returns will be balanced so as to equal, if not sur- . CO,; pass, those of last year. k Discusses Many Subjects. Besides being given a first-hand de- scription of the agricultural situa- tion, President Coolidge received from Mr. Jardine the latter's personal & views upon a variety of subjects di- o %I Conklin Endura, at $§ and $7, in red, black, mahogany; long or short; clip or ring cap.
