KEITH'S—Nora Baye Nora Bayves, “our own Nora," is heading a splendid bill at Kelth's this week, and the exhilerating comedienne recorded just as big a hit as she did & decade nago. Miss Bayes has a personality that carries her through and her followers show in ¢ time she she should make so much fuss over her and gowns is u mystery. as any old costume would do, but she certainl has the fabrics so dear to a woman's heart. Many of Mis have maintained that she will never put over songs as taking as in her ¥ early career, but they should have heard her sing “Alabamy Bound™ last night, and the old-timers would have been forgotten. Then she introduced Mrs. Louis Alter in a d ptive song, followed by the palr dancing the Charleston, and they fairly stopped the show. A dozen curtain calls demonstrated that Nora still retains her grip. A splendid dancing act is introduced in the second half of the program b Guy and Pearl Magley. A rich set ting is given each numbs d in ad- . dition they carry the Melvin sisters in costume songs and dances to carry on while the stars are changing cos- . and two bright colored boys as announce The act is titled “Dance Stor and the Magley’ certainly emphasized the fact that their reputation of being among the best in the business is fully deserved The big laughing hit of the evening recorded Joe cter Interpre ) the comed- | " while Miss | ian of “Fair and Warmer Eline has brightened up several big revues. Jean Barrfos, billed as the of Fashion,” offers melody. song and charm. Jean Barrios' sowns are ex quisite and should surely please the ladies, and her (?) manner—well, this will knock the men over for a bull’ « eve. Leona Karle and Bob Carney are a couple of clever, graceful and original entertainers who offer a com edy skit of son and dance entitled “This and Tk They keep their au- dience laughing. They do neat bu lesque comedy on'the ‘Apache Dance. Other numbers on the vaudeville pro- gram included Daf, Cole and Helene, | in a concoction of good old-time com- edy brought up to date, with' plenty of god singing, graceful dancing and Wwholesome comedy. The photoplay attraction brings an- other noted stage success to the screen wraps | Bayes' admirers | Weston and | n opened the | | love, been visited upon the oppressors, and nine tirnes has Pharaoh refused to heed the warning conveyed to him by Moses. The tenth affliction, the death of all the firstborn of the nation, is threatenad, and still Pharach refuses to release the hated Israelites from bondage. The blow falls; at midnight the hand of death is laid upon the firstborn of Egypt: the body of his sor brought into the presence of the King. Still wrathful against a God in whom he does not belleve, Pharaoh orders the Hebrews freed and be seeches his own god to wreak ven- geance upon the people who have brought a curse upon his kingdom. The march of 40 years through the wilderness is begun under the leader- ship of Moses. The Red Sea is reach- ed and the Hebrews pass safely be- tween the divided walls of water. The pursuing Egyptians are swallowed up as the sea rolls back into its course, and the triumphant followers of N reach the plains below Sinal camp 2 mads for many fays, and where the people turn to idojatry during the sojourn of their leader on the mountain. Having -received the Ten Commandments and commission ed to return with them to his people, Moses descends the mountaln with the engraven slubs of stone, and find « wild orgy of pleasure in progress, a golden calf set up for worship and one woman of his tribe a leper. From that point the story jumps to the modest home of a mother and her two sons, supposedly of the present lay. ut as pictured it is at least two generations removed from modern teaching and preaching. The long- faced, intolerant mother who turned her son out of house and home be- he could not subscribe to her beliefs respecting right and has long since faded into the ound. even out of hearsay. | eaven be thanked. she has been sycceeded ‘by the mother who knows w to live religion instead of preach- ing it. However, the purpose of the atter half of this story is to build up a man who throws God and the Ten Commandments to the four winds and who boasts his determination to defy at least nine of the Command- ments and become a successful man. He breaks all ten, and, of course, reaps his just reward. Taken as a whole, “The Ten Com- mandments” is disappointing. It is much too heavy at the bottom and much too flimsy in its superstructure There would seem to be no end gained In staging so elaborate and impres an episodic extravaganza in a logue as a basis for a modern dav | story so crudely drawn. Lewis Stone, cast in the role of a titled roue, almost steals the sympathy of the audience from Percy Marmont, the persecuted hero. Mr. Stone's impersonation is charming and human. Mr. Marmont however, is admirable in the princi- pal role and makes his character con- vincing. - Alma Rube. is the girl of this triangle.
