Eugene Van Rensselaer, 84 yvears old, a_descendant of early settlers of k State and father of Mrs. rroll Frazer of 1316 Six- et, died at her home today lineal descendant of Killian Van Rensselaer, to whom was grant- ed, through Hol Rensselaerwyc Mr. with apoplexy last night. He had been in good health up to that time. He had been a resident of Washington since 1911, and prior to that time had often visited here. He was the twelfth and youngest child of the Iz laer and Mrs. Harriet Bayard Rensselaer of New York. He received his education through private tutors at the Albany Academy. Due to delicate health, Mr. Van Rensselaer was unable to participate in active conflict during the Civil War, but rendered valuable aid as a staff officer. The work par- tially begun yesterday will continue for a week, when all the routes will be finally decided upon. More than threescore roads now designated as connecting highways are included in the system, forming a group of improved roads over the entire United States and touching every State capital. The Lee highway, in_practically its entire length from ‘Washington through the Valley of Virginia, cross- ing the southern and southwestern States to California, is included in the list of arterial highways to be marked “U. 8. Highways,” the board an- nounced, even though part of the| route of the Lee highway in Texas may not be included in the official highway. Eight of the routes cross the Rocky Mountains and extend across the con- tinent; nine originate along the gulf coast and terminate in Canada; an- other starts in Idaho and ends at Charleston, S. C., while one begins !~ on the Pacific coast and ends in Southern Florida.
