LANDSPECULATOS USIVBAD CHECKS Flood of Worthless Paper Dampens Enthusiasm of Rockaway Traders. By the Assoclated Press. . R many contra h the land boom, which | ay a $1,500,000 ; started with a “shoestring” found their paper profits turned into losses Unless the boom collapses, it is probable that 20,000 persons living in bungalows on the ocean front, will soon have to seek other homes. Real estate men say that a vast seaside re sort will follow the 9-mile boardwalk, and that the “bungaleers” will go. Meanwhile, hundreds of them are try: ing to ride to fortune on the specu- lative wave, and have dropped Sum- mer sports for amateur salesmanship. While huge paper profits are com- mon, few speculators are assured that they will really collect the prices they have contracted to receive for land, | and the real estate agents who are collecting commissions are among the few to whom profits are assured. Jailad}or Assault on Officer. Owen . Donnell, colored, was sen- tenced to serve six months on a charge of assault by Judge Macdonald vesterday after he had entered a plea of guilty. Donnell was arrested Sunday on North Capitol street after a fight in which, it is alleged by the police, he took Detective Brodie's revolver from the holster and assaulted the officer with it THE EVENING AR, WASHINGTON, GLEN ECHO ‘RAIDED’ BY ‘MOB’ OF CHILDREN Youngsters With Hahn Fun Club Turn Out in Throngs and Storm Concessions. Stormed by thousands of Washing- ton children, the management of Glen Echo Park yesterday afternoon was forced to close most of its amusement features in the interest of safety for the boys and girls who overran the place and were completely out of con- trol of the park attendants. The occasion was the outing of the Hahn Fun Club, and although a large number of invitations had been dis tributed, it was not anticipated there would be such a great attendance. Street cars were Jjammed, and as each unlonded its cargo into the park the { problem became harder to solve. The children, under the banner of “Fun Club,” really had more fun in their manner of creating it than if they were conducted about in an orderly manner. They charged the various amusement features, disregarded pre- | cedent and procedure, ran on the tracks of rapidly-moving thingamajigs and shocked the officials to the point where the plant had to be closed down. In the earligr hours of the club’s assemblage _sifficient order prevailed | to permit the holding of several ath- |letic contests. Among the winners were Max Feldman, Alexander Swee- ney, John Wallace, Mildred Barnett, Joséphine Conner, Bernice Thomas, Herbert Brainn, George Wooden, Har- Woodcock, Blla Hagguinaso, Ruth | King, Ruth Stein, Milton Dickdaut, Ramey, William Stein, Sidney POPULAR EXCURSION Via Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac R.R.
