FINANCIAL NEW HIGH RECORDS IN MANY SSUES ‘Stock Prices Advance in ~ Spite of Week End Selling. Industrials Lead. 2 AT AR BY STUART P. WEST. #Special Dispatch to The Star. EW YORK, July “number of stocks today made new - high records, and in many instances ‘the gains were notable. The high- priced industrials stood out again, while some of the rails continued their upward movement. The principal advances occurred in the high-priced industrials, easy to move on account of their small float- ing supply. Railway Signal Up 15 Points. Mack Trucks went well above the 200 mark for the first time. General Railway Signal, which had gone up 151% points the day before, jxmped another 9 points. These advances were partially relinquished in the lat- ter part of the day. Others to make new tops were Sears-Roebuck, Amer- jcan Radiator, up 3 _points; In- ternational Harvester, International Shoe, General Baking, Woolworth, Chicago Pneumatic Tool and Coca- Cola. Numerous other stocks also surpass- ed their previous top figures. Among n were Yale & Towne, Utilities wer and Light, Ward Baking B, National Acme, American Safety Razor, Ginter, which was up over 2 ponits; Wabash, Montgomery Ward, Owens Bottle preferred, the Tobacco Products i and Phillip Morris. The buying of Tobacco Products com- me ent, accompanied by reports of favorable earnings and ot possible further deals in the to- bacco field. Motors More Prominent. Among other features were General Electric, with a rise of over four points; White Rock Mineral Springs and Western Union. Oil shares were inclined to be somewhat heavy, with noticeable selling in the Pan American Congoleum made a new i low and Radio Corporation was weak on the unsatisfactory report for the second quarter. YORK, July 24.—Bond prices displayed a firmer tone today, perhaps a reflection of the remarkable showing in the Federal Reserve weekly bank statement. the system as a Svhole showing an ad- vance from 76.1 per cent a week ago to 77.1 per cent. on Wednesday and for the New York bank from 81.6 per cent to 83.5 per cent, it was difficult to foresee any change in money condi- ‘tions which would make for lower prices in bonds. Incidently the outstanding note cir- culation of the reserve system is at its lowest point for the year to date. Whether this. was the cause or not bond quotations hardened not only United States Government obligations, but corporate issues as well. Rail Bonds Are Leaders. The leaders in activity, however, were not investment, but speculative bonds, chiefly junior railroad issu St. Louis-San Francisco income? s 90 were at a new high. The adjust- ment 6s were up, but not to their record high, and the prior lien issues were only barely steady. Missouri, Kansas, Texas adjustments were in demamd at advancing quota- tions, and Seaboard Alr Line adjust- ments made @ fractional gain. New York, West Chester and. COFFEE PRICES JUMP NEARLY CENT PER POUND NEW YORK, July 24 (P).—Con- tract prices for coffee shot up nearly a_cent a pound today on circulation of private estimates indicating the total yield in Santos, Brazil, for the present season at only 7,000,000 bags, in contrast to previous estimates of 10,000.000 bags. Active buying resulted.
