S., Study By Experts Shows Consumption of gasoline In the United States is far more exten- sive than anywhere else in the world. A survey made public to- day by the Department of Com- merce showed per capita consump- tion in this country to have reach- ed 69.3 gallons a year, while Eng- land was second, with an average of only 11.6 gallons. One year's consumption in China would not keep the automobiles of the United States running efght hours. In order to keep pace with de- mand, American gasoline produc- tion was increased from 1,500,000, 000 gallons in 1914 to 9,000,000,000 gallons in 1924. The United States accounted for 79 per cent of the world’s _total consumption last vear, while at the same time ex- porting $160,000,000 worth. Announcement also was made by the Department of Commerce that in June the United States pro- duced 350,557 passenger automo- biles and 36,096 automobile trucks, compared with 214,322 and 28,117, respectively, in June last year. For the first six months of 1925 the United States has turned out 1,836,491 passenger cars, against 1,744,534 in the same period last year arid 226,059 trucks, against 192,322 American Bishops in England.
