BY GEORGE T. HUGHES. Special Dispateh to The Star. NEW YORK, July 20.—The princi- pal development of the day in the bond market was the prompt over- subscription and the. closing of the books “on the mnew $75,000,000 Aus- tralian loan. The fact that these bonds, carrying 5 per cent coupons and priced at 993, were so readily sold and on such a low-yield basis was _considered proof of the strength of the investment position. The two Queensland issues listed on the ex- change sell on a basis of about 5.6 per cent for the 6s and about 5.9 per cent for These, however, are bonds selling at a premium and nor- mally premium bonds give a higher return than those selling at a dis- count when the quality is approxi- mately equal. St. Paul Bonds Active. The feature in the general market was the activity in the St. Paul, especially the Puget Sound 4s, which were up above a point. The advance 1S connected in some quarters with the contest over reorganization. De- posits under the officlal plan are stated at over $44,000,000 for all the St. Paul junior liens, but time for de- positing bonds has been extended. Other rallway bonds were fairly stable. Southern Railway general 4s had a fractional advance and de- mand continued good for the Denver- Rio Grande Western 5s. Chicago and Alton 338 were down a point and Seaboard Air Line adjustments were heavy. Liberty Loans Quiet. In United States Government bonds the Treasury 4is were in supply, but the Liberties maintained approximate- lv the levels that prevailed at the close of last week. The recently of- fered Hershey’'s Chocolate 6§ con- tinued to sell at a premium over the offering price. Foreign bonds were steady. Frac- tional recessions in one part of the list were offset by fractional advances elsewhere. A new foreign loan was $10,000.000 in Cify Cologne, Germany, G‘_‘: at 87 to yield over 7.60 per nt. FILM STOCK SOARS IN CHICAGO MARKET CHICAGO, July 20 (#).—Shares of Balaban and a moving picture theater company. scored a sensational advance today on the Chicago Ex- change. CHICAGO, July 20.—With reports at hand that cutting of wheat had be- gun in North Dakota and that weather conditions northwest were favorable, the wheat market took a decided early swing downward today. Many traders were apparently acting on opinions that recent sharp ad- vances in price had discounted crop damage advices, und that a reaction was to be looked for. Rain in parts of Alberta had some further bearish influence. The open ing unchanged to 1% cents lower, Sep- tember 1.55% to 1.56 and December 55 6512, was followed by set around, with Fayorable weather over the corn belt led to lower prices for corn and oats. Starting at % cents decline to 4 cent advance, September 1.06% to that down 1.04%. Oats opened unchanged to half cent off, September 45%. BALTIMORE, meld & Sons' plant, manufacturing store fixtures, has been sold to the Grand Rapids Show Case Co., accord ing to President Young of the latter company. The local plant is the third largest in the United States in that line of work, and was established in 1865. The transaction, including the real estate, involves about $1,000.000. Mr. Young explained that the Balti more purchase was in line with a plan to have a plant in every impor- tant shipping center. The low freight from Baltimore to the South was one of the chief factors in deciding on this city, he explained. . CHICAGO LIVE STOCK MARKET CHICAGO, July 20 (United States Department of Agriculture.
