THE SUNDAY STAR, WASHINGTO 5+ B ¢, JULY 5, 1925—PART 2. MME.LUDWI1G~ KLEINWACHTER,, “Wife of the tlew counsefor of i Hundariaw Legalion. President and Mrs. Coolidge Are Greeted at White Court By Scores From the Capital Large Colouy of \Vashington Folk Settles for Summer Along North Shore—Few Cabinet Members Linger Here. SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. HE President and Mrs. Coolidge are meeting many familiar faces in the neighborhood of White Court, their Summer home, for not in years has there been so large a colony of Washington folk, official and otherwise, in the vicinity of Swampscott, Beach Bluffs, Marblehead and the other places along the North Shore. Yesterday more than a hundred yachts took part in the races off Marblechead and the waters fairly gleamed with white sail. However, the President and Mrs. Coolidge are only looking on at such sports and are taking no active part in anything other than their sightseeing drives. In their absence the White House is undergoing its necessary renovation and painters and carpenters have possession of the place. NLY a few members of the cabinet linger on in the Capital, the Secre- tary of State and Mrs. Kellogg taking their' departure Thursday, and others who remain are planning out of town trips of fong or short dura- tion. The diplomats who remain here have adopted the informal life and dine and live as much out doors as possible. HE newest members of the corps, the Minister of Egypt and Mme. Samy Pasha, must spend some weéeks in the Capital without official recognition while the Minister awaits the return of the President to receive his credentials. But, nevertheless, they are finding old friends here and they will acquaint themselves with the Capital while enjoying it unofficially. rge if informal party given by the Minister of Guatemala and Senora d y night in the Pan-American Build- ing, like all of the entert d there, was an event of particular beauty. It was the last opportunity given society here of listening to and dancing to the strains of the Marimba Baund of Guatemala, sent here by that government to play at the reception given a short time ago in the Pan- American Building for the President and Mrs. Coolidge by Latin American diplomats. There was supper and dancing in the Aztec garden and the charming hosts added another pleasant event to be remembered in their ocial history. WUILL fewer weddings graced the month of June, the nuptial events which did take place lost nothing in beauty or interest, and one of the most notable of the near-by affairs was the wedding Tuesday at the f and Mrs. Waddy Butler Wood near Warrenton, Va., when hter, Miss Lindsay Lomax Wood, was married to Mr. Robert HE nry Hadow. a British diplomat, once stafioned here and now assigned to Teheran, Persia the ceremony took place in picturesque St. James' Church in Warrenton, the reception had all the atmosphere of an old Virginia event at Lomax Hall, where the guests enjoyed both the grounds and the mansion INCE ante-bellum days, when beauties in hoopskirts lighted themselves to bed at old Virginia resorts, with flickering candles held aloft, the famous hotels have lost none of their glory and instead of the beauty in hoopskirts the maiden of today. in much abbreviated gown, simply touches a button to switch on the lights and is finding her greatest joy in the same old hostelries. At Hot Springs, White Sulphur and lesser places are fo be found many Washington folk who figure in society here during the Winter months.” Old Washingtonians still seek out the mere remote springs for spending a few quiet weeks, and at Orkney Springs, famous during the Revolutionary days, there is quite a colony. Shenandoah County, once called Dunmore, had as its first clerk the father of Chief tice John Marshall he springs were named for the Earl of Orkney, + colonial governor m the days of the French and Indian wars, and an abstract of title shows that Orkney was surveyed by Gen. Washington, then in the employ of Lord Fairfax. Orkney is nof far removed from the Endless Caverns, and those with other underground wonders ‘of the Old Dominion, now among the most famous caves of the world, are tak- ing many tourists from the Capital for a day or two of exploring. Noted Polish Official To Visit Washington ‘Washington diplomatic society, or at least as much of it as is resident in the ecity at this time, will have one break in this month, by reason of the arrival of Count Alexander Skrzynskj, the Polish Minister of foreign affairs, who arrives in Amer- ica on the Paris, July 14, and who, ufi-r a visit of respect to the Pres- ident at Swampscott, will visit Washington for the purpose of ex- tending his greetings to the officials of the State Department. The minister, who for all his youth, and he is only 43, has had quite a brilliant career, i8 worthy of the distinction which the President has graciously accorded him of being the first diplomatic visitor to be re- celved at White Court. His “Wash- ington stay will not exceed three or four days, during which it is under- stood he will be a guest at certain social functions to be given by offi- cers of the State Department.
