SEE LEGION FUND OVERSUBSCRIBED National Commander Drain Predicts Hearty Response to Appeal. Belief that the American Legion $5,- 000,000 endowment fund drive for the benefit of the disabled veterans and orphans of the World War would be oversubscribed was voiced today by National Comdr. James A. Drain as the local units went into the second Aweek of solicitation of the public Comdr. Drain, a_past department commander of the District of Colum- spent two days in Washington ring the last week. He announced that the national campaign was progressing in splendid fashion, and that subscriptions of more than $2,- 000,000 had already been reported to the' national headquarters at Indian- apolis. Spoke in 38 States. Comdr. Drain_has delivered ad- dresses in 38 States in connection with the endowment campaign. He was {nformed while here that the drive A s had been completed, to that effect had been made there to President Calvin Coolidge, honorary chairman of the campaign The citizens' teams which have been at work here under the supervision of Robert N. Harper and John Hays Hammond will be augmented this week by teams of the local posts of the Legion. A concerted effort will e made this week to complete the quota for Washington. But they also know that there is real need of an assisting and _sympathetic agency. In the last six years the American Legion has proven its worth as the principal of those ca pacities. This fund is needed to put the Legion’s work in this respect on a permanent and businessike basis. Consequently it cannot help but com- mend itself to those who are able to contribute.” Women Convict Man; Weep.
