Special Dispateh to The Star. BALTIMORE, June 29.—The open season for all sorts of fresh-water fish in Maryland waters, except trout, Thursday. The trout season, W opened last month, closes to- MOrTow. Bass and the other varieites of fish found in Marvland may be caught above tidewater, beginning Thursday, until November 1. They must be taken by hook, line and rod, however, as the use of nets to catch them is illegal, according to Game Warden Le Compte. To fish in Garrett, Al- legany, Washington, Frederick, Car- roll and Dorchester counties non-resi- dents must obtain anglers’ licenses, but in other counties there is no such requirement, Mr. Le Compte said. The minimum ‘anhfl of the varioug sort of fish which it is legal to keep are: Black bass, 9 inches; rock or striped bass, 10 inches; perch, 7 inches; pike or pickerel, 14 inches; catfish, 7 inches.
