Also it was denied that any dividends were contemplated on the old pre- ferred stock until existing bank loans had been liquidated. Wall Street, de- spite this official statement, continued bullish on the Pierce-Arrow situation and the common shares after breaking 4 points regained part of the loss in the late afternoon. Sharpe Advances Near Close. Some remarkable advances occurred tn industrial stocks which are easily marked up on account of their smail floating supply. The main features of the late afternoon were the shares of motor truck manufacturers, the su nd a few of the public utilities. The selling of oils at the same time sluckened and these stocks were dis- lly. appears that the dividend re- sumption discussed in the case of American Sugar Refining is dependent upon improvement in the sugar mar- ket. Well informed people believe that raw sugar will advance to 33 cents a pound in the coming months and it is calculated that such a de- velopment would be very helpful to not only the leading sugar producers, but be very helpful to refining com: panies as well. Armour & Co. of Illinois class A advanced to a new high in re- sponse to bullish statements regard- ing the packing business and the af- fairs of the company itself, and re- ports of the Armour earnings situ- ation are optimistic. NEW YORK, June 19.—Renewed strength in U.'S.” Government loans was the feature in today’s bond mar- ket. Four issues made new high rec- ords for the year and one of them, the fourth 41 Liberties equaled its high point fof all time, It was in Midsummer a year ago when money was at its extreme low that the high levels were reached for Libertles and it was held very signifi- cant that in the future of the money market that these fecords of a year ago should be equaled now. Treasury Issues at New Tops. The best price of the year was made by the first 414s, the second 4%s, the third 4%s and the fourth 4%s. Of the Treasury issyes the 4s made a new top. The impressive feature of the Gov- ernment bond market today was its uniform strength. Even the tax-ex- empt 31%s made a small gain. High- grade rails and industrials were quiet, but firm. New York Central 5s and Illinots Steel 414s made fractional ad- vances. Copper Bongds Active. Copper bonds were the leaders among the more speculative issues. Chile Copper 6s and Anaconda Copper 7s were among the most prominent. The former are convertible into com- mon stock at $35 a share. The latter are convertible into Anaconda stock on a sliding scale. Only moderate in- terest was shown in sugar bonds not- withstanding the strength in sugar stocks. In the railway list the declaration of only the regular 21 per cent semi- annual _interest on Seaboard adjust- ments had little effect on the bonds. Foreign Group Unsteady. Foreign bonds were frregular. There was a continued good demand for Ar- gentine 7s on account of the short ma- turity. Brazil $s were in supply and vielded. CHICAGO, June 19.—Wheat scored new advances in price here today after an early setback that was due to an unexpected decline at Liverpool. The ensuing fresh upturns here were based largely on a report from one of the foremost crop experts in the country that chances are fully four to one for serious damage from black rust in North Dakota and the eastern half of the Canadian Spring wheat beit. The report said 50 per cent of the wheat fields from Wilmar, N. Dak., to Grand Forks, N. Dak., have water standing in_them. Results of studies of retail market- ing of meats made by the Department of Agriculture beginning in 1920 and covering representative cities and | rural districts in all parts of the coun- | try have been issued in Department 1AL, U.S. OPERATING CASH DECLINES Savings of $107,328,995 Effected in First 11 Months, Treasury Statement Shows. Totalexpendituresof the United States Government, chargeable against ordi- nary receipts, amounted to $3,111,294, 102 for the first 11 months of the present fiscal vear, a paring of $107, 328,995 over the corresponding period of last year. The two major contributing items, according to detailed statement made public by the Treasury, are the re duced interest on the public debt, Which declined approximately $66,000.- 000, and requirements of the United States Shipping Board, which slumped about $54,000,000. The former's needs in the 11 months of 1825 amounted to only $790,663,253, whereas in the previous fiscal year it required $856, 105,165. The latter expended the first 11 months of the present fiscal year only $28,605,549, compared with $82,557,492 the same period of the previous year. Savings ranging from $10,000,000 to $23,000.000 were also effected by the War Finance Corporation, Treasury Department, Interior Department and the United States Veterans' Bureau The War Department, Navy Depart ment and the Department of Agri culture were among those showing increases over last vear.
