Sworzyn's Sons Co., which conducts department store at 1219 G street, |. died in the Washington Sanitarium. Takoma Park, yesterday, after an ill ness of several months. Mr. Sworzyn, who was 66 vears old, came to this country from Poland 45 years ago, and began his career as a peddler in Baltimore. His rise was rapid. After a few years he opened a store in Baltimore, and his business grew so fast that he soon erected a five-story building. Later branch stores were established in this city St. Paul and New York. Built Up Business. Opening on G street in 1909, Mr. Sworzyn had, through his keen know! edge of business enterprise, built up his establishment until it ranks with other department stores in Washing- ton. Two sons, G. Joseph Sworzyn and Reuben Sworzyn, are treasurer and secretary respectively of the com- pany. Mr. Sworzyn had made both Wash- ington and Baltimore his home, in an endeavor to divide his’ time equally among his four children. Besides his two sons, G. Joseph and Reuben Sworzyn of this city, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Bernard Makover of Baltimore, and another son, Aax Sworzyn of Baltimore. His wife dial 18 years ago. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. I. Goldstein of Balti- more, eignt grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Mr. Sworzyn was a member of Argo Lodge of the Independent Order of B'nai B'rith. HYATTSVILLE, Md., June The funeral of Mrs. Mary Lapham Burr, 84 years old, widow of Lafay- ette Burr, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kate B. Scott, Sat- urday, was held this morning from the First Baptist Church. Dr. B. P Robertson, pastor, officiating. Inter- ment was in Fort Lincoln Cemetery. Mfs. Burr was a native of Western New York State and had resided with her daughter here for about five years. Her husband was one of the construction engineers in the building of the Santa Fe Railroad, and was lieutenant-adjutant of the 9th Indiana Regiment, Union Army, in the Civil War. Besides Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Burr is survived by another daughter, Mrs Rose B. Radley of Washington and two sons, Charles A. SWORZY Many persons of outstanding promi. nence in the Nation's Capital attended funeral services for Gustav Buchholz, proprietor of the Occidental Hotel and restaurant, at the Concordia Lutheran Church this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock Rev.
