C. Visitor at Glen Echo. Deputy Sheriff Stanley Gingell is paying much attention to the pro- tection of thousands of residents of this city who freqeunt Glen Echo, Md., especially Saturday nights and Sundays. Several reports of the work of pickpockets at the resort were made the past two weeks, and Satur- day night the deputy sheriff was on {hand to look after such individuals. Gingell made an attempt to arrest two young men he suspected of at- tempting to pick the pocket of an elderly man. He succeeded in getting only one of them, however, after a short chase. The prisoner was registered at Rockville as Thomas Green, a resi- dent of Southeast Washington. Gin- gell today reported having identified the prisoner as Samuel Lowenthal, alias Harry Markowitz, alias Sam Greenburg, whose likeness is in_the local police gallery, said to be a Bal- timoreran. The deputy sheriff is an- xlous to learn the identity of the Swiss Solution. By the Associated Press SCHENECTADY, N. Y., June 9.— Sir Esme Howard, British Ambassa- dor to the United States, yesterday was awarded the honorary degree of doc- tor of laws by Union College. As hon- orary chancellor he addressed the graduating class in the memorial food chapel, discussing the problems of democracy and the Swiss solution. He said that the two principal require- ments of government for a demo- cratic state were stability in govern- ment with the least possible disturb- ance to public lite, and that the government should express as far as is humanly possible the will of the people of the country. Those two requirements, he said, have been better met in Switzerland than per- baps in any other country in the ‘world. Capt. Bradshaw to Sail. Capt. The extra leaf type of condensers, for permitting fine ad- justments of capacity, are not as good as the geared type, in which all the rotor plates move as a unit under fine control of a gear mechanism. Vernier Dial Recommended. One of the best methods to use for fine adjustments is the type of vernier dial which permits a continuous vari ation of the capacity rather than a separate vernier in which a rough adjustment is obtained by a coarse adjustment and the finer adjustment is obtained with a separate adjust- ment. The terminals of the condensers should have a positive contact with the sets of plates with which they make contact. A pigtail or flexible connection between rotor plates and rotary plates terminal is the best positive contact that can be obtained, | but a good friction contact will give instruments that are to be mounted in the panel The use of such an instrument greatly facllitates the job of mounting the part on the panel| | and also eliminates the trouble often experienced in locating the mounting | [CHICAGO PROCEEDING | WITH SEWAGE PLANS | | Supreme Court's Refusal to Open} ' Water Diversion Case Again | Expected. 1 | | Scores of times since I first went| Mme.
