ENBASSY TOSHNE N STYLE OF ATTEL Mexican Artist and Garden Expert to Transform Of- ficial Building. Work has been started to transform the art and certain physical features of the Mexican embassy, it was an- nounced yesterda: Carlos Terrazas, expert horticultur- ist and agriculturist of the Mexican department of agriculture, and Rafael Yela Gunther, one of the leading. art- ists of the republic to the South, have arrived and entered upon their duties. They have come at the special re- quest of Ambassador Don Manuel C. Tellez and by acqulescence of Presi- dent Plutarco Elias Calles, who last Yall inspected the embassy building end agreed with the Ambassador on certain changes that should be made. Senor Terrazas accompanled a car- 1oad of native plants, numerous varie- tles of cactus predominating, and cared for them en route. The ship- ment came through in fine shape, and the expert now is busily engaged set- ting the plants into crocks and pots for the embellishment of the conserva- tory. Senor Gunther {s working with his brush on several arches and panels for the same compartment, and from his drawings will eventually execute the designs on the walls. The style will be Aztec, From the conservatory he will g0 to @ number of other rooms of the mansion, notably the dining room, which is done in heavy quar- tered oak. Fountain of Ebony. In the center of the conservatory will be bullt a unique fountain of ebony, decorated with Aztec charac- ters. The floor will be of red tile. As soon as the cactus, palms and ferns @re set up and the artist's task is doge, & number of native birds will be placed in the room. These birds will be largely parrots and parokets. frhey will be shipped here soon. This room looks out to the south tipon the palatial home erected by Mrs. John B. Henderson for the use of the Vice Presidents, but which has Dot been occupied by any of them, be- cause it has been deemed too large to It opens on a roof garden which s to be thrown together with the conserva- tory in furtherance of the Eden-like scheme. The conservatory is on the second floor. It leads off from the dining room, which adjoins the “gold room,” beyond which, across the front, is the music room, containing perhaps the finest private pipe organ in Washington On the third floor is the library, and on the fourth and top floor are the living quarters of the Ambassador and his family. The offices and recep- tion rooms are on the ground floor, and here in the wide hallway it is planned to dispose of a wealth of na- mainly potted palms and sent from Mexico Cil jo|——=lalc—=alalc——lollojc——— o] ——— o] ———|a} New Georgettes With Slips New Prints Flat Crepes Canton Crepes Crepe de Chines in sport and dress effects and only $7. The Ambassador came into contact with one of the long-needle specimens and narrowly escaped serious conse- quences. A helper requires stiff leather gloves, but Senor Terrazas handles the various kinds nonchal- antly in his bare hands. Although a number of Washington residents are connofsseurs on the sub- ject of the cactus, it is believed that no private garden will compare with the Mexican when all the specimens are in place.
