BY GEORGE T. HUGHES. Special Dispatch to The Star. ¢ NEW YORK, April 30.—The feature of the day’s trading in bonds was the withdrawal of support for Dodge Brothers’ 6s at the offering price of 99. One or two sales were made ves- terday a little below this figure, but not until today was there any volume to transactions under 99. Under heavy offerings the price broke 2 points in the first hour of trading, after which there was some rally. In view of the reported heavy over- subscription this incident attracted more attention than it would other- wise have done, coinciding as it did jwith a similar loss in the preferred stock. Besides the sales in the regu- lar way there were some transactions for delivery seven days at prices from to 412 points under Wednesday's close. Government Issues Firm. High-grade investment bonds were firm and at least three United States Government issues equaled their best prices for the vear. The Treasury 4s were in especial demand, and next to these the third and fourth 4 Lib erties. Among the industrials, United States Steel sinking fund 5s were un- Iy active, but at only small frac- tional change in price. Time money was still in supply in excess of de mand Privilege of conversion into stock at tached to New York Central debenture 6s expired today, and sales were made of the bonds for cash, so that they ! could be converted before the close of business. Tomorrow the bonds will sell entirely on their investment merit and probably some points lower. Opposite Movements. In the balance of the list there were two opposite movements; strength in rubber and tire issues and heaviness in the sugar company bonds. Kelly- Springfield 8s were up nearly 2 points among the rubbers. Losses in the sugar issues were only fractional. Notwithstanding the continued de cline in the price of raw sugar, the ar producing companies are in a strong financial position, and there is no reason why the bondholders should be disturbed The Japanese 6135 were the leade I‘xn the foreign grou; selling up to 9 | the high of the ye: and only a point |below the high of 1924.
