T D ERWOOD e UNDERWOOD Activities at White House, » Coming Week Will Reflect Gay Spirit of Eastertide Official Luncheon Thursday in Honor of president-‘ Elect of Cuba to Be Only State Function of Holiday Time. SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. N keeping with the gay spirit of the season, the President and Mrs. . Coolidge will enjoy unusual activity at the White House this week in their first big post-Easter party, e traditional Easter Monday egg rolling tomorrow being in marked contrast to the official.lunch- con party they will give in the state dining room Thursday for the Presi- dent-elect of Cuba, Senor Machado, and his party. Mrs. Coolidge has added an unique interest to the egg rolling by inviting a number of the older Girl Scouts in to inaugurate and carry on the games for little people who are more or less awed by the thousands of older children and grown- up folks around them. FTHE President’s cabinet has remained almost intact for the Easter sea- son, the Secretary of State and Mrs. Kellogg being marked absentees. They are spending Easter Sunday at Pinehurst and expect to return here in time to take part in the entertainment of President-elect Machado. The Secretary has adopted the custom of Mr. Hughes in walking to the State Department each morning, and while their handsome car stands by "the doorway to take Mrs. Kellogg on her errands, Mr. Kellogg and His secretary step along toward the office building at a lively pace HE Secretary of the Navy and Mrs. Wilbur are following a custom started by the late George von Lengerke Meyer when Secretary of the Navy, and with a party are cruising on the Sylph over the week end. The Secretary of Interior, Dr. Work, is in the West; Mr. Hoover, the Secretary of Commerce, is in New York, and the Secretary of Labor, Mr. Davis, is making a visit in Philadelphia and New York, but will likely re- turn here, as will Mr. Hoover, in time to watch the egg rolling tomorrow. 1t is the custom of the President and Mrs. Coolidge to have the members of the cabinet and their families as guests on Easter Monday, and usually the party is confined to the south front balcony, where they watch the children and hear their shouts from the lawn below. HILE arrangements for the entertainment of the President-elect of Cuba and his party seem to halt a bit, there is the dinner party Thursday night which the Secretary of State and Mrs. Kellogg will give, preceded by that of Wednesday cvening, when Baron de Cartier, the Ambassador of Belgium, will entertain. Other entertainments for. the party will mark the week, and each event will give some of the friends of Senor de Cespedes, former Ambassador from Cuba to this country, an cpportunity to renew their relations. THF. annual polo ball Tuesday night at the New Willard will call out all social reserves of the Capital, as well as the leaders, and will add another triumph to those of the polo association. New features will be introduced in the decoration of the ballroom, but the idea of a polo field will, as usual, be carried out. The boxes to be occupied by representatives of foreign countries will be decorated in their national colors, and foreign naval and militar-/attaches arc expected to wear their uniforms or court dress. All of th /Ambassadors and Ministers now in the Capital will be in boxes, and adding an_attractive feature will be the polo players them- selves in their field habiliment. 'HE Washington Opera Company will delight hundreds of music lovers tofnorrow night at the Auditorium, when Chaliapin will appear in The Barber of Seville.” Mrs. John B. Henderson will.occupy the presi- dential box and will have with her the Ambassador of Italy and other guests of note. Diplomats and society folk in large numbers will occupy boxes and groups of seats, the new floor arrangement giving those oc- cupying even the seats farthest back a good view of the stage. ASTER brides will parade the boards this week, the wedding of Miss Virginia Harrison Edwards and Ensign John Elbridge Parker tak- ing place Tuesday evening, while two important weddings are scheduled for Thursday, that of Miss Helen Louise Wallace and Lieut. Frederick Cruger Pyne, at 8 o'clock in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, and that of Miss Elizabeth Zolnay and Mr. George T. Summerlin, jr. at 4:15 o’clock in the afternoon in the home of the bride’s parents. Each bride-elect has received constant entertainment for weeks past, and a lovelier group of weddings has never graced the early days of Easter week. bUTDOOR events from now on will prove the mast interesting form of eutertainment, and the House of Mercy, following its usual cus- tom, has named May 22 as the date for its garden party. The picturesque environs of the Cathedral. Close will furnish the place, and from 3 to 7 o'clock on that day the fashion of Washington will mingle in the shadow of the unfinished Cathedral and St. Alban’s lovely little church. 'OMORROW night the twenty-second annual Dixie ball will take place at the New Willard, and an attraction of the ball harking back to ante-bellum days when ladies in hoopskirts and men in claw-hammer coats graced the balirooms of that period. will be the Virginia reel, almost the saly colonial dance now left us. Taking part in the reel will be—giving them their Civil War rank—Gen. N. D. Hawkins, Col. Lec Crandall, Gen. Charles B. Howry, Capt. F. M. Angelo, Capt. G. A. Alexander. Col. J. A. Brown, Col. John M. Follin, Col. L. M. Powell, Mai. James M. Rixey, Maj. Robert Thomson, Col. W. L. Wilkerson, Maj. H. S. Walter and Col. Alex T. Rose. Mrs. Maud Howell Smith, president of the Robert E.
