Retail food costs in Washington continued during the month from February 15 to March 15 the drop shown in report for the previous month, the Department of Labor an- nounced today. Compilations from 20 of the 51 cities from which re- ports are received monthly showed decreases in thirteen of them. Food costs in the Capital showed a decrease of 1 per cent in the month over the month from January 15 0 February 15. During the Fall and early Winter prices of food in Wasi- Ington maintained a steady upward trend, according to the department. The maximum decrease of 3 per cent shown in the figures made public today was @ drop of 3 per cent for Fall River, Mass.; Portland, Me., and Providence. A drop of 2 per cent was shown for Boston, Bridgeport, New Haven and Scranton. The six cities showing an increase, with one sta- tionary, were Cleveland, Detroit and Peorla, 1l., 2 per cent, and Buffalo, Indianapolis and Milwaukee, 1 per cent. VETERAN MINISTER DIES. Rev. James Clark, 95, Was Soldier in Civil War. MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., April 7.—The Rev. James Harvey Clark, 95, veteran Presbyterian minister, sald to have been the oldest G. A. R. chaplain in the United States, and the oldest graduate of Princeton University, died here yesterday. At the beginning of the Civil War he gave up his first pastorate, at Bur- lington, Iowa, to join the 7th Iowa Infantry, and became known as the | “fghting parson.” After the war he held pastorates in New Jersey, North and South Dakota and Minnesota, and retired in 1900. .
