WEDNESDAY NARKS BEEIVINGOF LENT Catholics to Increase Religi- ous Vows—~Other Church Services. Next Wednesday, which is Ash Wednesday, will mark the beginning of Lent, the penitential season for Catholics throughout the world. Many of the Protestant churches also observe the event During that season Catholics are expected to abstain from theaters, danc, card’ parties and other amusements and to increase their re- ligious devotions. In all Catholic churches through- out the world next Wednesday the wor- shipers will receive s on their fore- head, the symbol of the certainty of death and the need of preparation for it. BARKLEY TO SPEAK. Representative to Lecture at Cal- vary Methodist Church. Representative Alben W. Barkley of Xentucky will deliver a patriotic lec- ture on “Washington, the First Amer- jean” at the Calvary Methodist Church tomorrow evening. At the morning service Rev. The annual admission service of the Girls’ Friendly Society of the Nativity, Resurrection and Annuncia- tion chapels will be held at the Na- tivity Chapel, Fourteenth and A streets southeast, tomorrow at 8 p.m. The Nativity class invites all of this class to a get-together party at their parish hall Tuesday night.
