NEW YORK, February 20.—In view of widespread criticism of a dozen Broadway sex plays, besides “A Good Bad Woman,” which Willlam A. Brady will voluntarily withdraw after to- morrow’s performance, District At- torney Banton has come out in favor of censorship by a jury of playgoers. “I want to get away from political censorship and think that the most effective curb on plays will come from within,” Mr. Banton said today. I have in mind selecting a panel of 300 representative citizens who are also playgoers. From this list the com- missioner of police could select 12 to act upon complaints; I think the recommendation of such a jury would be followed; if not we could then prosecute.” Mr. Banton added that he would also favor applying th& jury system to complaints against objectionable 01 Discussing his agreement to ontinue “A Good Bad Woman,” Mr. v said today he was “mentally sfied, but financially disgruntled.” Gives Back $26,000. “There is a load off my soul,” he asserted. “But I never feel comfort- able about giving $26,000 back.” The $26,000 was refunded to patrons who had bought tickets for next week. Speculators sold tickets for last night's performance for $20. “I told Mr. Banton that I could delay proceedings against me while the play was making big money,” Mr. Brady added, “and that in the end I could probably escape with a nominal fine; but he appealed to me to help him clean up the stage and I volun- tarily agreed to withdraw the play.” Mr. Brady's press department as- scrted that the motive of the producer in presenting “A Good Bad Woman™ Lad been to shock the public into reformation.” $25 000,000 IS NETTED BY CASUAL CONVERSATION Confidence Expressed in Southern by Fairfax Harrison Led Group to Invest.
