EPISCOPAL CHURCH T0 PICK DELEGATES Four Lay and Four Clerical Envoys to Convention to Be Named Here. The clerical and lay delegates from the severai parishes of the Episcopal Church in the diocese of Washington now are considering the matters which will come before the annual diocesan convention, in St. Alban's Church, Wisconsin avenue, February 4. The convention will elect four clergymen and four lay deputies to the g pnvention of the Epis- copal Church, which will be held in New Orleans in October. Prayer book revision, the status of women In the church, divorce, the Youth movement and Important prob- lems of faith and doctrine will be considered in New Orleans, and it is important that the deputies from Washington truly represent the sen- timent of the church in this diocese. In large measure all of the impor- tant proposals for prayer-book revi- slon were favorably acted upon at the st general convention, which met In prtland, Orex., September, 1822, Ca- nonical provisions require, however, that these propositions shall be ap- proved at the next succeeding con- vention, to make their adoption final and legal; 80 that, once more, the delegates now to be elected will have to pass upon the plans to omit the word “obey" from the marriage cere- mony, as well as for the provision eliminating the phrase in which the bridegroom endows his bride with all his worldly goods. Another question which the New Orleans convention will have to dectde finally is as to the use of the shortened form of the Ten Commandments. Other vital questions which come before the convention at Orleans are the plan for licensing women as lay readers and the estab- lishment of an order of deaconesses who shall be formally ordained to their office. The youth movement in the church has reached such proportions as to glve leaders oceasion for grave thought Will Adopt Program.
