Thomas, 11, and Charles H. Stephenson Tied in Novel Ear Competition. Doris Alberta Thomas, 11 years old, 3025 Fifteenth street, and Charles H. Stephenson of Rutland Courts tled for first honors in the novel ear contest broadcast last Saturday night from WRC, It was announced today by R. Dean Shure, director of music of the Mount Vernon M. E. Church, South, who arranged the event. Both will receive a copy of the book of plano pleces autographed by Dr. Schuyler Mathews and Mr. Shure. Mr. Shure received 1560 replies, many of them coming from a number of States in the eastern section of the country. The contest consisted of the playing of Mr. Shure's new composi- tion, “Four Bird Sketches for the Plano,” founded on authenticated bird calls from Dr. Mathews' bo ield Birds and Their Mus The radio audience was asked to check up the number of times the call is employed in each plece. The calls were played slowly three times before the compo- sition 1 1f. Becauso of the suc of the test Mr. Shure and Georgo I of WRC's studio staff are planni another one next month. Police Banquet on WNYC. NEW YORK, January 17.—The twelfth annual banquet of the Folice Sergeants’ Association of New York, at the Hotel Commodore tonight, will be broadcast by WNYC. I have heard this statlon sevaral times very clear and loud. The last record I have of hearing the man's voice was the evening of January 14 (Wednesday) between 7:45 and § o'clock. I heard him talking to BWL .and calling 3NJ, Canadian, and 3BWT. It the call letters have not been assigned, is there any way of deter- mining who is using them?—R. D. BROWN.
