SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. ROM now h Wednesday, February life in the social world of the Capital will be one long, pleasant whirl of activity, stately official entertainments and equally important diplomatic evemts engaging the more sedate part of the charmed circle, while dances and lighter affairs will keep the debutante and younger set busy. Last week held its splendid White House reception, a chapter so brilliant as to illuminate future pages of history; its charming reception at the Con- gressional Club for the Speaker and Mrs. Gillett, and the splendid Bal Boheme of the-Washington Arts Club, with its various artistic phases and rollicking fun, and besides these entertainments there were many im- portant parties, some of which were for the two retiring Am- bassadors, M. Jus d of France and Don Gelasio Caetani of Italy dinner HE President and Mrs. Coolidge will be hosts at dinner Thursday night Y BLING, nddaughter fCol and Mrs Arthuy OBrien wil at their home an NewHampshire hve CJ hem 3 HARRIS & EWING VARRIS & FWIN to the diplomats, and Wednesday afternoon the ladies of the cabinet will held their first—and all but one—official reception of the season. Their second Wednesday afternoon at home will be February 4. Satur- day night the Secretary of State and Mrs. Hughes will be hosts to the Ambassador of France and Mme. Jusserand, and there will be several other important dinners that night, the Minister of Colombia, Dr. Enrique Olaya, and Senora de Olaya, his lovely wife, entertaining at another of their various dinner parties of a series. The Colombian party tomorrow night will be given in honor of Don Gelasio Caetani, and tomorrow night will also find the Minister of the Netherlands and Mme, de Graeff as hosts at dinner. And so on throughout the week there will be parties within parties, first the diplomats entertaining Washington society folk and again being themselves guests about some bounteous board. HE petite Southern bride, Miss Margaret Pou, daughter of Represen- tative and Mrs. Pou of North Carolina, whose marriage to Mr. Carle- ton Edward Moran will take place in St. Margaret’s Church ‘ Saturday evening at 8 o'clock, is the bright particular star about whom much en- tertainment centers during the week. The Rt. Rev. James Freeman, Bishop of Washington, will perform the ceremony, and almost imme- diately thereafter the bridal party and guests will repair to the Con- gressional Club, on New Hampshire avenue, for the reception. The wed- ding party is a large one and the afiair lends much official color to the eck socially. W balls in Washington’s social history have been more brilliant or | successful than the Bal Boheme, given by the Washington Arts Club | a week ago, and the cvent has come to stand as one of the annual parties | of Washington expected to lend color and change to the social scheme of the Winter's entertainment. Financially, it gave a strong helping hand to the projected addition to the club building, which is an imperative need. The best known artists, architects and persons working along that line are enrolled in membership, lending cast to the organization. RS. COOLIDGE, who diligently helps along the charities of Wash- ington by sponsoring their worthy events, now lends her name for the costume ball to be given the night of Monday, February 23, to beneft | the George Washington University Hospital, which is # much need of aid. Instead of using a hotel or outside ballroom for the evening, the George Washington University gymnasium, on H street, will be used. A further interesting fact is that the ball will celebrate the 193d birthday anniversary of our illustrious first President, the suggestion of colonial days obtaining to a great extent in the costumes and decorations.
