K. SWETT DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS Was Secretary to Commissioner of Pensions—Member of Association of Oldest Inhabitants. Dr. Fred K. Swett, secretary to the Commissioner of Pensions, and mem- ber of the Association of Oldest In- habitants, died at 3:20 a.m. todaey at the home of his son-in-law, Dr. Robert Y. Sullivan, 3105 Thirty- fourth street northwest, after an ill- neas of several months. Dr. Swett was born in Calais, Me., October 30, 1857. He came to Wash- ington in the Spring of 1865 with his father, S. C. Swett. He attended the public schools and Columbfan (now George Washington) University, grad- uating in law in 1879 and in medicine In 1888. He was a past master of Harmony Lodge, No. 17, F. A. A. M. He entered the Government service in April, 1880, in the Pension Bureau. He was well known in musical circles, having been a ‘member of the old Apollo Glee Club and Washington Operatic Society. As a young man he attended and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, but his | wonderful bass voice carried him into several other church choirs. His maternal great-great-grand- father, Henry Price of Boston, was the founder of Free Masonry in this country, having brought the first charter from England, signed by Lord Montague. Dr. Swett is survived by his wife and five daughters, the latter, Mrs. Florance Granger of San Francisco, Calif.: Mrs. W. W.
