GEN. W. W. WALLACE DIES IN 80TH YEAR Retired Army Officer Succumbs in San Francisco, War Depart- Brig. Gen. William retired ment Is Informed. W Infantry and Caval Wallace, a|was at Fort Ethan Allen, Vt., when officer, | retired for age in October, 1906. THE EVENING died at San Francisco Wednesday, his 80th year, the War Department informed. He entered the military service in October, 1866, as a second lleutenant of Infantry and took an active part in several Indian came paigns in the West. Afterward he served in the Spanish War and at va- rious posts in the United States and in the Philippines. He was 74 years old and until two years ago had lived in New York, where he was well known in financial circles. Mr. Wainwright took an active part in local politics in the latter 98s and was one of those indicted here in 1902 in the so-called “boodle” investi- gation, involving the lower house of the city council.
