NEW YORK, September 18.—Under the influence of the easiest money conditions ever known in the early | utumn the stock market today was generally strong. The official call loan rate remained at 2 per cent, but this was purely nominal. Money was virtually unlendable in any volume at this figure. The bullish effect of | this extraordinary ease in money was | more than enough to offset political { uncertainties. The upward movement was by no means uniform. Certain stocks were offered freely enough to prevent any further advance and| bring about some reaction. But op-| erations for the rise on the whole | were conducted with more confidence than at any time in a month Steel shares stood out strongly throughout. BOSTON, September 18 (Special).— Speculative buying of raw wool, with a good sprinkling of mill orders, was reported in the Summer street mar- kets today as a result of continued strength shown obroad. Prices here are stiffening, with Ohio delaines re- ported to have been sold as high as 60 cents in the grease, the equivalent of about $1.50 clean. Special Dispatch to The Star, NEW YORK, September 18— Further strength was displayed by today’'s bond market: not so much in United States Government obliga- tions, although these were firm, but in railroad and corporate issues. Among the high-grade representa- tives of the last named.classes, Read- ing General 4s were consplcuous and in the second-grade bonds Western Maryland 4s Were the leaders, while of speculative securities International Great Northern adjustments went to another new high record on increased activity. Funds were In abundant. supply again today and demand was lim- ited. It was not surprising that bonds were strong, the wonder was rather that t werq not stronger than they were. Missouri Pacific General 4s may be taken to lllus- trate the point. They were active and higher Wednesday and added to the gains today, but they are still selling more than 7 points below the high of 1922, when not only was money higher, but when the financial condition of the road was not amearly as’ strong as it is today.
