MANILA, August 22.—Addressing 2 Rotary Club luncheon yester Manuel Roxas, speaker of the Phi Pine House of Representatives, de- clared that the Filipinos before and during 1921 were aspiring only for the independence of the Philippines under the protection of the United States. Y., an alleged rum-runner, was killed early today during a running gun battle west of the Roamer Shoals lightship between six Coast Guards and six men in the speedboat Lynx I The boat was captured and 500 cases of whisky found aboard her. The Coast Guards fought with ma- chine guns and revolvers, whjle the crew of the Lynx II returned their fire with revolvers. None of the guards was injured, although bullet after bullet found its way into the GoVern- ment boat. The remaining five members of the Lynx II crew were arrested. Hardesty. She was married to Mr. eger in 1897 and came to this city in 1905. She was a well known stu- dent of literature and was a member of the Emerson Club here.
