Dy the Ascoc'ated Press, JACKSON, Miss, August 21.—In- complete unofficial returns from Tues- day’'s Democratic primary election in Mississippi, compiled up to last night by the Clarion Ledger, show United States Senator Pat Harrison received 69,487 votes for the nomination to succeed himself against 15,645 for former Gov. Earl Brewer. These fig- ures were obtained on returns from 76 countles out of the §2 in the State, and indicate a total vote in the State of not much fore than 100,000, in the opinion of party leaders. State Senator W. M. Whittington of Greenwood was nominated for Con- gress from the third district, succeed- ing Representative Humphrey, who was not a candidate. Representative Ross Collins, in the fifth district, and Representative Percy Quin, In the seventh district, were victors, while Representative 1. W. Collier. in the eighth district, obtained a majority over both his opponents. Other Rep- resentatives had no opposition. On the face of the returns, every member of the State Highway Com- mission was renominated. Supreme Court Justice was not a candidate to suc self in the third supreme court ju- dicial district, where Chancellor J. G. McGowen is leading Circuit Judge C. P. Long by approximately 1,100 votes on incomplete returns, with little chance for Long to overcome the lead. As a result of the showing made by the defenders of the car, agents of the Government said that 3,000 mail coaches will be equipped with similar attachments. These consist of riot guns, firing shields, battlefield flares and shot spreaders, superimposed on a car built of steel. The hold-up was repulsed without casualty to the train crews, but of the six make-belleve bandits, three were “killed,” two were ‘“captured” and one “escaped.” The “robbers” were all employes of the New York post office on special duty.
