Child Narrowly Escapes Death by Poison Given Dog A dog poisoner narrowly es- caped having the death of a child on his hands today. Pretty little Margaret Gwinne, five-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Homer Gwinne, ‘of 1226 D street northeast,’ started out to play In the backyard this morning when she picked up the remains of a “hot dog” sandwich. True to the* natural instinct of all children, her first impulse was to sample it, and she was just on the verge of 50 doing when she spied the fam- ily's pet dog lying dead In the middle of the yard. All thoughts of eating vanished for the mo- ment in her consternation, and, running ‘wide-eyed to her mother with the story, the poisoned meat was rescued from her. The sandwich was taken im- mediately to the police and an analysis is leing made of the poison contained. It is belicved that this near tragedy was the result of a pre- concelved attempt to kill the dog, sMce twice before the family pet has shown signs of poisoniug. However, the father feels that possibly @ more serious plan was concelved. He said this morping that one of hiz neighbors at dif- forent times had threatened to kill both the dog and the child be- cause of the disturbing noise they made areund the vieinity.
