Lee Trinkle as a tribute to Joseph Edward Willard, lieutenant governor of Virginia from 1902 to 1906 and later American ambassador to Spain, who gied last night at his home in New ork city. Mr. Willard served from 1894 to 1902 as & member of | the house of delegates of the Virginia | general assembly and from 1906 to | 1910 was a member of the state corporation commission. He was de- feated by Senator Claude A. Swanson in 1905 for the democratic nomination for governor. In 19 he was ap- pointed by President Wilson to the | post at Madrid, where he served until 1821.
