Wagner, Wins Approval of Fel- low Professional Men. ‘Washington architects and builders believe that the greatest cos§ prob- lem in the use of concrete has been solved by the recent invention by William, F. Wagner, a local architect, of a new concrete building material, It has long been recognized that the one great obstacle to the use of conerete in building construction is the enormous and Increasing cost of the lumber required for forming pur- poses. Mr. Wagner has met this prob- lem, local building men beli by substituting for the temporary wood- cn forming a form or shell built of cured concrete construction units which not only receive the soft mix prepared on the job, but also remain part of the finished structure. Once the concrete is poured, it sets into dovetail channels on the interior of the forms, tying the whole struc ture together in a monolithic m which is additionally reinforced by the metal tie bars. The greatest advantage claimed by the controlling company for the proc- ess, of course, Is the saving of lumber and the labor required to carpenter it, erect it and tear it down after the mix is set. With the American lumber supply being consumed four times as fast as it grows, this cost, it is point- ed out, must go steadily higher from year to year, not only making cong crete structures more expensive bu also Increasing the cost of lumber for all other purposes. Mr. Wagner estimates the savings in’ concrete construction at from 30 to 30 per cent of present costs, while fully 50 per cent of the time required for this t of a truction job will be sa he beli Because of the large size of the concrete forms and the simplicity of their erec a wall or column can rected and poured while & carpenter is ing the lumber for such a j under present methods, he asserts, In this local builders and architects agree. Numerous other advantages are claimed for the forms. Not only will they decrease costs in heavy poured but it is also 3y the forms in six-inch hollow construction, wit uc- coed and the Intertor plastered right over the forms, permanent fireproof housing duced pri GUIDE TO BUILDING.
