The congregation of the Shiloh Baptist Church, which recently en- tered into a contract to purchase the property of the Hamline M. E. Church, th and P streets northwest, has launched a drive to raise $35,600 by May 1 toward payment on the property. Rev. Dr. J. Milton Waldron, pastor of the church, stutes his congregation has agreed to pay $85,000 for the i property including the organ and i furniture, It is the intention to sell their present property on L street at what, hie says, is & fair price and that there will be remaining $35,000 to be pald. Work for §25,000 Fand. Members of the congregation are working earnestly to raise $25,000 for the fund, while the pastor has underfaken to secure the other $10,- 000. Birnie has ac- cepted a call to the pastorate of the Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church, to succced Rev. Dr. Hu- bert Rex Johnson, who resigned because of i1l health. Dr. Birnie was born in Spring- fleld, Mass., and was graduated froni Yale University in the class with Chief Justice Taft. He was principal of the Rockville (Conn.) High School for two years. He then studied theolog Yale T vinity School and recetved the degree of doctor of divinity from Union Theological Seminary, after which he spent two years in'a trip around the world, a winter in Egypt, spring in Palestine and a winter in India. On his return he was ordained APRIL 5, 1924. SERVICES AT ST. PAUL’S.
