Widener to return the two famous Rembrandt paintings which the lat- ter obtained from ths prince tn June, 1021, by the payment of £100,000. The action, fled by the law firm of Evans, Bayard & Flek of Phila- delphia, acting in conjunction with the prince's New York representa- tives, Root, Buckner, Holland & Clafk, is based on the mueh-disputed agreement which the prince insiste was made at the time of the picture's” transfer. Claims Right to Purchase, ‘The contract, according to the prince, provided that he might re- purchass the “Portrait of o Woman” and “Portrait of & Man” at the origi- nal sale price, plus 8 per cent in- terest, at any time before January 1 1924, In conformance with that agree- ment the young Russian nobleman, through his attorneys, formally of- fered the sum of $520,334 on Deesm- ber 13 to Mr. Widener's counsel, Kilis Ames Ballard, only to have it politely but firmly refused.
