Cook, ma- chinist, and Stephen M. Lee, mechani- cal_engineers. The explosion, according to conclu- slons subsequently reached by a board of inquiry, was caused by the pres- ence withinl the chamber of a quart of vaporized gasoline, which was set oft by a backfire from the carburetor of the engine in operation.
