The executive committee of the Washington Federation of Churches held the first meeting of the fall Thursday afternoon at the Endion Club, with Rev. Dr. G. M. Diffender- fer presiding. The First Methodist Protestant Church and the Woman's Christian Temperance Union were admitted to membership. Rev. Dr. James E. Freeman, Bishop- elect of Washington, gave a detailed explanation regarding the services relating to his consecration and in- dorsed the action of the federation in appealing to the churches for their co-operation in the public service on the Cathedral grounds September 30. Mrs. Mina Van Winkle, president of the Monday Evening Club, and Mrs. O. I. Woodley, chairman of the committee on law and legislation of {the Women's City Club, were elected to membership on_the social service committee. Mrs. Van Winkle has ac- cepted a special invitation to address a joint meeting of that committee and the executive committee October 9 relative to moral conditions in the city as she sees them in her position as an official in the police depart- ment. Rev. W. A. Morgan of Mount Pleas- ant Congregational Church reported definite steps under way for plans relating to church comity. Rev. C. R. Stauffer of the Ninth Street Chri tian Church gave a report regarding the success of the Daily Vacation Bible Schools. Indorsement was given to the ef- forts of the police department and of the Women's City Club to regulate conditions in the dance halls. The committee also indorsed plans of the chief of chaplains of the Army to have Sunday afternoon services in the amphitheater at Arlington when weather conditions make that possible. . H. Allen Griffith, secretary of the convention. The frontisplece is a portrait of Rev. Dr. James Edward Freeman, Bishop- elect of Washington. In addition to the record of the two days’ conventlon, the Journal contains reports from all the seventy-two par- ishes of the diocese of Washington, which includes the Episcopal churche in the District of Columbia and in Montgomery, Prince Georges, Charles and St, Marys counties in Maryland. Statistical tables are _appended which show that there are in diocese 36,757 baptized persons whom 23,534 are communicants and 8.662 are children enrolled in the Sun- day school. The total value of the church property is stated to be $801.- 612.30, and the total receipts for the year, $736,018.19; 1,312 persons were baptized and 1,301 were confirmed. At the time of the convention there were 120 clergymen attached in the diocese, of whom 31 are rétired or un- assoclated with any church in the diocese of Washington. BIBLE SCHOOL PROGRAM. Ninth Street Christians Plan Busy Season. The Ninth Street Christian Bible school will hold its fall get-together meeting Tuesday evening. Al th teachers, officers and workers will feast together at 6:30, after which the evening will be spent In making plans for the fall work. The first event of the vear will he the annual Promotion day, September 30 next, followed a week later by the annual Rally day. Next will be a traiping school for Bible school and church workers, to be held October 14-19. Four experts from the Na- tional Bible School organization will be_the instructors in the school New quarters are being provided for the Cradle Roll Nursery. The Berean class of men, of which Judge Gilbert O. Nations is the teacher. will hold its first business and social meeting Wednesday evening at the church.
