SUCDE RAY BE SOON O LA FANLY Jarvis Turner Burgess Was Cut Off With $50 Per Month by Father's Will. By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, March 16.—A key to & r6om in a “workingman's palace” a cheap hotel on West Madison street, found on the body of a suicide yes- terday, led police to communicate to- day with relatives of the lats David R. Burgess of Mobile, Ala,, in the be- lief that the suicide may be Jar\is Turner Burg the elder Burgess' outcast son. The body found in a vacant lot with both wrists slashed, and no marks of identification except _the key. At the lodging house Louis Per- ry was found relating to others how & strange man had given him a Land- ful of papers. These proved to be a copy of the will of David R. Burgess and other letters which seemed to Pprove the identity of the suicide. Information received from Mobile said Jarvis Turner Burgess had a tur- bulent career, having been sent fif- teen y ago to the Philippine )s- lands by parent, who was promi- nent in society and politics in Ala- bama. He returned in a short time and was sald to have wandered be- tween Chicago and Philadelphix most of the time since. The copy of the will showed David R. Burgess died in 1919, leaving an estate of a milllon dollars and cutting off his son with ap allowance of $50 a month. + CLAIMS SELF-DEFENSE. WINNIPEG, March 16.—After a long battle that has been punctuated with as many cheers and hisses and his adven- tures in the films, “Jack of the Royal Mounted” has folled the villain and come out victorious to shouts that echoed from the parliamentary benches in Ottawa to the banks of the Yukon and the frozen reaches of Hudson Bay. Even in this city there Is no dearth of applause despite the fact that it is the home of the villain in the plece, for it is the labor representative from Winni- peg who has played the thankless role, in an atempt to disband the Royal Can- adian Mounted Police and thus rob the world of more courage, honor, romance and thrilling footage than can be pro- duced by any other institution known to filmdom. Bitter, Long, en a long and vicious scrap, and couniry, in emergency, Jack has been accused of doffing spurs and six shooter to look through keyholes where ignorant if not innocent reds gather and even sneaking into re- spectable labor meetings and trying i THE E tissue builder. Uncertain. 1t has watched with as much interest s Jack's own flm career and as uncertain of outcome as when he is lured to the de- serted cabin, overpowered by the out- laws, stripped of his regimentals and left a prey to the wolves that can be seen howling in the cut-in. In the present struggle, as on the screen, the villaln has been on top more than once and Jack isn't quite out of the woods yet, though the vote in parllament Virtuaily finishes the reel and brings the happy ending within a few hundred feet. Mean- while the villain, in the shape of the labor representative and some liberals, has made some slurs on the hero's reputation. Rights of the Mounted. With what might be interpreted as & villainous sneer, the Winnipeg member suggested that if the mount- ed police have to listen in on private meetings, they might better have been present at the directors’ meeting of a certain financial institution which recently went up in smoke. The defamers of police say that some of the property thus seized in the king's name has apparently been held in Jack's. This has been denied, but one gentleman is still #aid to be looking for a large an valuable library which disappeare like a maverick in the twilight. However, these accusations have been satisfactorily answered and it appears that Jack will be restored to the saddle, with boots, spurs, riding crop, six-shooter and all.
