By the Associated Prens. LOS ANGELES, March 16.—A riot of movie men that was not filmed and which sent five of the extras into the receiving hosplial with wounds oc- curred yesterday at the service bu- reau for motion picture employes. It was an outgrowth of reductior in pay from $5 to $3 for motion picture extras. There were 300 men in the scene. They were waiting for work when a bureau man issued a call declaring wages would be $3 Instead of $5. howl went up and the 300 men threatened to atorm the bureau. Andrew Lane, watchman for the bureau, stepped out among the yelling extras to quiet them. They attacked him when he drew his pistol, but he cried enough, and, when he was re- leased on promise not to shoot, he started back to the office. He turned and fired six shots into the crowd. Policemen found the crowd aquieted and caring for the five wounded men. Lane was arrested. D. C, FRIDAY, MARCH 16, 1923. BANDIT SLAIN IN HOLD-UP. CLEVELAND, Ohio, March 16.—One of’a quartet of bandits who attempt- ed to hold up Frank Rinl, fish dealer, is dead. two are under arrest, one with a bullet wound in his shoulder, and the fourth escaped. The quartet entered Rini's store with drawn revolvers and demdnded money. They forced him into a back room, where Rini seized a revolver and fired one shot at his assailants, striking one in the shoulder, when his revolver clogged. As the robbers returned the fire, Rini seized an im- provised fish knife and plunged it into the back of one of the bandits, piercing the heart and killing him. His companions carried the dead man out and placed him in an automobile. Two of the bandits were later arrested as they were taking the dead man Into a rooming house.
