December 16—Covent Garden Opira House, which for more than a cen‘ury had been England’s premier horie for grand opera, has fallen under the influence of the modern trend toward comedy and jazz, and shortly will ‘open as & musical comedy emporium. As a grand opera house the theater has not been a success since before the war. The waning popularity of grand opera in England was dealt its final blow by the war-time intermission.
