Trading in the Liverpool market has been restricted by the Whitsuntide and the week's advices from guods markets have inspired no special comment. Sales of print u day lue to cloths in Fall River for the week were estimated at 140,000 pieces. It is reporied that the advance in raw ! cotton brought in more inauiries for ods from the interior, which might result in business if the higher prices were maintained. NEW YORK, June 10.—The cotton market opened steady at an advance of 1 to 7 points on continued wire and commission house buying promoted by bullish reports from the goods mar- kets and reports of a firm spot situation in the south. There seemed to be a good deal of reactionary sentiment around the ring, however, and prices eased off shortly after the call under scattered southern selling and realiz- ing prompted by rather a more favor- able viow of weathe! ditions. NEW ORLEANS, June 10.—While the cotton market tried to react from the aadvance todsy, it again met.determined buying and after declines of 2 to 7 points under yesterday's close around the opening, it rose to net advances of 13 to 30 points by the end of the first hour of the session. July fell off to 22.15 and then rose to 22.47. Futures opened steady: July, 22.20; October, 21.62; December, 21.40; Janu- ary, 21.2 March, 20.98. The usual flow of unfavorable crop and weather accounts from the in- terior kept the @emand up to largd proportions and 4n the late trading the advance was widened to 23 to 35 points, July rising to 22.52. Offerings were chiefly from realizing longs, but they were not -sufficiently heavy to cause setbacks of consequence. On the close the list showed net gains on the session of 15 to 28 points. A ma- Jority of the more active issues were plainly disposed to give way to pro- fessfonal pressure as outside interest waned. Very much the same conditions prevailed in the bond market, al- though several of the liberty group attained to high records and new underwriting offerings of domestic and foreign origin were easily ab- sorbed on public offerings. Despite the enormous expansion of jbrokers’ loans, call money rates fell to lowest renewal quotations in four year! Concessions were made on thirty and sixty day accommodations and commercial paper was in better demand. Eliminating the coal strike and the prospective strike vote arising from another cut in railway wages, indus- trial developments were mainly en- couraging. May production in the automobile trade was a record-break- er, according to authoritles, and ad- ditlonal advances were announced in prices of metals, , raw and refined sugars, textiles and leathers. Disclosures connected with _the proposed three-company steel mer- ger dampened speculative ardor In shares of that type, but gossip con- tinued to deal broadly with possible combinations in other industries and some of the minor rallroads of the west and southwest. Severe declines in Mexican govern- ment bonds suggested fallure of the plan to readjust the external debt of that country. Abandonment by the Paris bankers’ committee of negotla- tions for an international loan to Germany was followed by reversals in all the European currencies at this center. STEEL TONNAGE GAINS.
