BERLIN, February 14.—American commercial | leaders {n Germany are greatly interested in the negotlations in progress here betwesn German trade interests and Leonid Kraesin, the Russian saviet trade representa- tive. It is reported that the American traders are actively furthering the German attempts to establish good trade ‘relations with Russia, hoping I} | thereby to_divert German competic tion from South America. It is said that if trade between Germany and Russia, which Germany Is hoping for and would prefer to South American commerce, should be developed to any appreciable extent it would give the Americans the longed-for opportunity of further d veloping the South erican col mercial fleld. Should German com- merce toward the east develop suc- cessfully, the German interests are reported to be willing to abandon their South American projects gen- erally. This is said to be particularly possible in case legitimate trade re- lations with Russia can be establish- ed, since Russia has raw materials essential to German industry and Germany has machinery and other || { products needed in Russia. —_— il IDECIDE SHIP To BE KEPT.
