To Give First of a Series Of White House Receptions Many Dinner ‘Parties Scheduled During Week. Children's Hospital Ball to Be Leading Dancing Event. SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. HIS week will better reflect the brilliancy of the official social sea- son than did last week, cven though the program was opened with the splendid New Year reception at the White House on Monday and followed by many interesting events, chief of which was the dinner given by Senator Cummins for the President and Mrs. Harding. The first of the series of receptions to be given by the Presi- dent and Mrs. Harding, with dinner parties as interludes, will take place Thursday -at the White House, when the diplomatic corps will be guests of honor. ‘The Secretary of State and Mrs. Hughes will entertain the President and Mrs. Harding at dinner tomorrow night, and just a week later, January 16, they will be guests at the Congressional Club, the in- vitations having been issued a few days ago. HERE is a probability of the President and Mrs. Harding appearing at the Children’s Hospital ball at the New Willard tomorrow night, in which event they would fulfill tradition, that having been the custo of many former Presidents. Mrs. Coolidge, wife of the Vice President, and the wives of cabinet members will receive on Wednesday afternoon, and Mrs. George B. Christian and the wives of many of the assistant sec- retaries of departments have chosen the same day for receiving. Mrs. Sawyer will receive with Mrs. Christian, thus adding interest to her re- ception. Friday was firmly established as diplomatic day at home last week, and 'most of the embassies and legations will again be open to callers Friday aiternoon. THE ambassador of France and Mme. Jusserand will entertain a dinner company this week, and Representative and Mrs. Britten will have the Speaker and Mrs. Gillett as guests of honor at a dinner party Tues- day night at Wardman Park Hotel. The minister of Cuba and Senora de Cespedes will entertain at a tea Saturday afternoon for the latter’s daughter, Senorita Flaminia Sarmiento. The week will close with an- other of the small but brilliant One Hundred Club dances, while all dur- ing the Week are dinner parties, teas, luncheons and other forms of entertainment for the smart set. HE week’s dancing events will start with the annual Children’s Hos- pital ball at the New Willard tomorrow night, an affair so vitally interesting to the whole city that all events, save early dinner parties, give way to it. Almost without exception, the hosts entertaining dinner parties will take their guests on to the ball, where boxes surrounding both ballrooms will be filled with the fashion of the capital, both official and resident. January 25 has been selected for the annual benefit ball for Garfield Hospital. MIDWINTER wedding which enlists the interest of society quite generally will be that of Miss Nina Gore, daughter of former Senator and Mrs. Thomas P. Gore, to Lieut. Eugene Luther Vidal, in St. Mar- ret’s Church, at 4:30 o'clock Wednesday afternioon, and which will be ollowed by a reception at the Congressional Club. Last week was filled with interesting social events for the bride-elect. Tuesday night the former senator and Mrs. Gore will entertain a supper party for her, fol- lowing_the rehearsal, and later still the wedding party will accompany Lieut. Vidal to Wardman Park Hotel to dance. Capt. Tupper Cole will be best man at the wedding, and the ushers include Capt. Louis B. Mont- ford, Maj. Harmon, Maj. Jack Harris, Capt. Porter Lowry, Lieut.
