- INNUAL REPORT OF MERGENTHALER 0 Earnings Show Slight De- crease—Regular Dividend Declared. BY L A. FLEMING. Shareholders of the Mergenthaler Linotype Company held their annual meeting at the home office of the company, Brooklyn, this morning. The company's fiscal vear begins Wwith October 1 and ends with Sep- tember 30. For the last fiscal year the corpora- tion made a net profit of $2,313.469.44, as compared with §2,430,731.63 for the previous year. While the net earnings show = small loss the year's result and the . Position of the company financially should be 2 source of satisfaction to the stockholders, as they are only slightly under the net of last year and show earnings over 18.07 per cent. The earnings for the month of Oc- tober, the first month of the new fiscal year, are given as $184,982.92, or about 1.4 per cent on the capital stock. ‘The assets of the company at the close of the fiscal year were $28, Bfll.f ), as compared with $24,8! , “plant, machinery and tools, which increased from $1,408,689 last Year to $1,948,037 for the year under review. Real estate has also increas- ed _some $430,000. These increased assets result from the erection by the company of a large building and equipment, financ- ed without debenture or capital en- largement. The whole plant is free from mortgage of any character. Moreover the surplus, which last year stood at $3,6: 9.52, has been ,Increasea to $9,661,208.96. One of the most important changes in liabilities is the reserve which has been built up for taxes, depreciation &nd general reserve, the figures now being $1,613,721.51 as compared with $600.502.29 for the previous fiscal year. The investment account has increa: €d moderately, this account includ liberty bonds, indicating that the corporation has held on to its liber- 1ies and has not been so pressed for cash as to have been forced to market them. Orders unexecuted at the close of September amounted to 407 machines. In the same month 170 machines were delivered. Regular Dividend Declared. CHICAGO, November 16.—Wheat scored a moderate advance in price today In the early trading. 1k of a loan to Germany was a bullish factor, and so, too, was strength in foreign exchange. Continued dry weather in the southwest acted as a further influence on the buying side. Initial quotations, which ranged from 1% to 7% higher, with December 1.04% to 1.04% and May 1.07%; to 1.08, were followed by some additional gains. Seaboard bidding for corn helped to strengthen both corn and oats. After opening unchanged to %a¥% higher, May 52% to 52%, the corn. market continued to harden. Oats started % off to a shade ad- vance, May 36% to 36%, and then became firmer all around.
