~ ALLIES GIVE BOOST 10 GERMAN CREDIT Guarantee Commission An- nounces Next Reparation . Payment Already Covered. ! : BY ARNO DESCH-FROURET. ‘ By Cable to The Star and New York World. Copyright, 1921. / BERLIN, October 4—The interallied guarantee commission, which has been sitting in Berlin during the last week, studying the actual possibili- ties in making payments of repara- . tion, has come to the aid of the Wirth government in an unexpected way. This has given Wirth new force in the very delicate political situation. The guarantee 'commission an- nounced publicly that Germany’s next reparation payment—350,000,000 gold marks, 25 per cent being on exports— i® already covered by delivery. Rellef to Wirth Government. As the people’s party, led by Dr. Gustav Stresemann, was ruthlessly -using the government's immediate need of money to pay reparation to force the government to abandon its taxation plan and so let the industri- als get a strangle hold on the gov- | + ernment by advancing a billion and ; a half gold marks, the announcement | of’ the guarantee commission helps the government to maintain its inde- pendence. It shows the government needs less ready money than appears the surface and it also takes the wind out of the campaign for a mora- torium, which was being prepared in the convention of trade and industry at Munich. : Industrials Sought Control. |The industrials, through this ‘con- vention, sought to say to Dr. Wirth and Minister of Reconstruction Rathe- nau that the industrials would get them immediate credit for a million and a half gold marks if they would throw their taxation schemes over- board and let the industrials work ‘out their own taxation plan. The government is willing to let the leaders of industry decide how they should be taxed, but it was not ready to sell out completely to the people’s party, whose leaders thought it had the government in a position where it must-yield to them or go bankrupt. = The guarantee commission’s state- ment relieves the tension sufficiently’ to. permit Dr. Wirth and Minister Rathenau to negotiate with' Strase- mann and Herr Stinnes on a fair basis. - VOTE FOILS STINNES’ PLAN. —_— A.ttsmpt to Gain Control of Berlin Government Defeated. BY GEORGE WITTE. - By Wireless to The Star and Chicago Daily News. Copsright, 1921. BERLIN, Germany, October 4.—The attempt of Hugo Stinnes, Germany's merchant emperor, to get control of the German government by ousting Cbancellor Wirth and_ putting Gus- tave Stresemann in his place has failed. The two-thirds vote by the social democrats against the mag- nate’s “people’s party” means a de- cisive victory for the Wirth cabinet and Germany's really democratic ele- ments and a defeat for the attempted Stinnes dictatorship. The newspapers announce, how- ever, that Herr Stinnes is continuing hig_efforts and- they hint that money is being freely used to maxe the sec- ond attempt more successful. NATIONAL PARKS IN MOVIES. Moving pictures illustrating the beauties of the country’s national parks, as well as those of the Ca- nadian Rockies and Hawali, were shown by R. H. Holley of the bureau of commercial economics on an open- afr screen at the grounds of. the Friends School Country Club, 3901 ‘Wisconsin avenue, Saturday night. Several hundred persons were in at- tendance. 4 The Most Modern Shoe Scientists today deplore the wearing of shoes which bind the foot and prohibit the free action of the muscles. Primitive peoples, who wore simple foot coverings of soft skins, had feet that were graceful and sturdy. Their walk was elastic and untiring. The ordinary stiff-soled.shoes of “civilized” races cause many serious foot troubles because they check the circulation and weaken the muscles by disuse. But the Cantilever Shoe gives the foot per- fect freedom. It supports a weak arch without harmful restraint. The flexible shank encourages the foot to arch and bend, to EXER- CISE. It strengthens the muscles surrounding the twelve bones of; the arch. In this splendid natural way Cantilevers prevent and cor.. rect flat foot. The Cantilever Shoe has a natural inner sole line that permits the toes - to point straight ahead, as they should for comfort. The heel is set »* to distribute the weight properly, . without strain on the arch. Every detail is designed for ease and health! And without sacrifice of good looks! -‘Cantilever Shoe Shop 1319 F St N.W. Second Floor Over Young Mea’s Sh-o New York Washington ‘ [ Wondmard [ & Wnthrop Open 9:15 AM.
