EARTH 1S FLAT, ZIONIST DECLARES, | AND WILL DEBATE WITH SCIENTISTS " By the Assoclated Press. | CHICAGO, September 16.—The story of “The Village That Voted the Earth 1s Flat” has an earnest adherent in Wilbur Glenn Voliva, overseer of Zion, the religious community that Alexander Dowie founded at Zion City, a little north of Chicago. Declaring that there is no proof whatsoever of the sphericity of the earth or that the earth has any motion, Overseer Voliva says he is “prepared to refute modern as- tronomy, scientifically, as well as from the standpoint of the Bible.” Here are some of the points he advances: “All standing water is level. Let any one disprove it If he can. They cannot disprove it. This is con- clusive evidence that the old Py- thagorean-Copernican system of the sphericity of the earth is false. “A man stood at Kingstony Ja- CHURGH COUNCIL TO TAKE UP PROBLEMS OF WORLD e — Analysis Will Be Undertaken by Alliance Holding Pres- byterian System. By the Assoclated Press. PITTSBURGH, September 16.—Analy- sis of the problems confronting churches throughout the world will be undertaken here at the eleventh general council of the Alllance of Reformed Churches hold- ing the Presbyteriain system, opening today. Sessions will continue until Sep- tember 25. Seventy different church bodies, num- bering nearly 35,000,000 members and ad- herents, are_included in_ the alliance, according to Dr. Jogn McNaugher, presi- dent of the Pittsburgh Theological Semi- nary and chairman of the local commit- tee. “This meeting is one of the utmost importance, because of the baffling prob- lems _confronting not any one nation or group of nations, or pne church or group of churches, but all nations and all churches,” Dr. McNaughér sald. +They are the world church problems and only a world gathering with the leaders in_religious work and thought from all corners of the earth In attend- ance can properly diagnose those prob- lems and work out the remedies for those ills. “The general council of the Alliance is_expected to solve many of the prob- lems of the Reformed Presbyterian churches. Ministers and others inter- ested in these churches are anxious to get the results of the deliberations of the council, because this is the first meeting since before the war and the war has been responsible for many of the church’s problems.” Since the first convention in Edin- burgh, Scotland, in 1877, it has been the custom to hold meetings of the general | council of the alliance every three or four years. The last was in Aberdeen, Scotland, in 1913. NOTED YACHT IN PORT. PROVIDENCE, R. I, September 16.— The famous old xchooner-yacht Amer- ica has arrived here, where her crew | are the guests of the Rhode Island Yacht Club. In approaching the pier she grounded. but was hauled off and anchored in deep water. She will maica, and saw the lighthouse at Havana harbor, eighty-two miles distant, which 'is another conclu- sive proof that the sphericity of the ecarth is a fake. “The midnight sun has been seen ! hundreds of times, but it would be absolutely impossible to see it on a sphere. You would have to look through hundreds of miles of earth and rock. “There is a r: America two tho which is aimost in South d_miles long, perfectly " level. The Suez canal is a hundred miles long without locks and with scarcely any rise at all. Where is your curvature of the earth? There is none. “No wonder higher critics and modern believers in the Coperni- can system of astronomy laugh at the flood and say that such a thing as a flood could not occur on a globe or a spherical earth—and I agree with them. They arc per- fectly right. That is what the devil intended when he invented the modern astronomical theory— to_destroy the Wort “They say that e by the earth pass moon and the sun, shadow, but how can eclipse ‘with both the moon above the horizon? It is a matter of record that there have been a number of eclipses with both the moon and the sun above the horizon. No one knows what causes eclipses. “They tell that the sun is ninety-two million miles away. I laugh at that mnot only as a ausing the ou have an un and the “Did God Almighty create earth and then create a light to light it up and million miles a million times larger than the earth?
